The live-action series based on Ubisoft's flagship FPS 'Far Cry' has significantly expanded its cast.
FX announced on the 18th (local time) that five actors—Brendan Gleeson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hamish Linklater, Sam Spruell, and Jamie Demetriou—have newly joined the live-action 'Far Cry' series.
Brendan Gleeson is well known for films such as 'The Banshees of Inisherin' and the 'Harry Potter' series, and is an Emmy winner and Academy Award nominee. Jennifer Jason Leigh was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 'The Hateful Eight' and has appeared in various films and TV series including 'Fargo'. Joining them are Hamish Linklater from 'Midnight Mass', Sam Spruell from 'Alien: Earth', and Jamie Demetriou from 'Stath Lets Flats'.
Adding previously confirmed stars Rob Mac, Lizzy Caplan, and Steve Buscemi brings the total number of main actors revealed so far to eight. However, the roles of the newly joined actors and the detailed plot for the first season have not yet been disclosed.
The live-action 'Far Cry' series is co-produced by Noah Hawley, creator of FX's 'Fargo' and 'Alien: Earth', alongside Rob Mac from 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' and 'Mythic Quest'. Rob Mac serves not only as a producer but will also star in the show.
Notably, taking advantage of the original games' structure, the series will be produced as an anthology. Just as each 'Far Cry' game focused on different regions, characters, and stories, the series will present a new setting, story, and cast for each season. Noah Hawley previously explained that, much like 'Fargo', it will be structured to explore a theme in different ways each season.
Starting with its first entry in 2004, 'Far Cry' is a flagship Ubisoft franchise played by over 100 million players to date. The most recently released main-line entry is 2021's 'Far Cry 6', and it was also previously adapted into a 2008 live-action feature film directed by Uwe Boll. In 2023, the animated series 'Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix', inspired by 'Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon', was released on Netflix.
The 'Far Cry' series will air on FX and Hulu in the US, and will be available internationally on Disney+. A specific release schedule has not yet been announced.
