A fan mod adding a new region between Acts 2 and 3 of Baldur's Gate 3 has been released in beta. On September 17, creator SquallyDaBeanz released version 0.8 of "Act Two Expansion - Custom Campaign" on Nexus Mods.
The new region, "Chionthar Wilds," is designed primarily for exploration and combat for level 8–10 parties. According to the creator's description, it offers new quests, dungeons, NPCs, and cutscenes, along with over 70 items and more than 30 combat encounters.
The distribution files are divided into a base version and QuickStart. The base version connects content between Act 2 and Act 3 of the original game. It can also be used with existing save files if installed before leaving Act 2. QuickStart allows players to enter the mod region directly upon starting a new game. Installed files must be activated in the in-game mod manager.
In the base version, players enter the new region by crossing the bridge that originally connected Act 2 to Act 3. After completing the mod, players transition to Act 3. Once past the point of no return, neither the Act 2 areas nor the new region can be accessed, so any remaining business in Act 2 must be completed first.
The current version is a beta that can be played from start to finish. However, the creator advised players to save frequently, warning that game-breaking bugs may occur. In particular, they noted that unfinished camp events could block entry into Act 3 during the final segment.
The mod is available for PC on Nexus Mods.
