Lucioball is back! Jeff Kaplan’s developer update video on Summer Games revealed!

Jeff Kaplan’s developer update video on the Summer Games was revealed on August 2nd. In this video, Jeff Kaplan announced that Blizzard will be bringing the Summer Games back with several changes, and gave a brief explanation on the difference to last year’s Summer Games.

According to Jeff, the Summer Games will be open to play on August 9th, allowing Overwatch fans the chance to get their hands on the old 2016 Summer Games skins and sprays. The difference this year though is that you can get these old goods with credits just like you can for other events. What is even more thrilling is that you will be able to get these old items at a discount.

As for the new skins, Jeff also mentioned that both Junkrat and Mercy will be getting new awesome skins. Jeff also said, “Widow Maker and McCree fans are going to be really blown away with what we're going to deliver”, which means that Widow Maker and McCree fans can expect new goods like skins or highlight intros for their favorite Heroes.

He also mentioned that the rate of duplicates in loot boxes will decrease drastically from the patch that came with Doomfist’s addition to the live server. The Summer Games will be the first event where Overwatch players can thoroughly enjoy the decreased rate of duplicates from loot boxes.

Jeff also said that Lucioball, a unique and charming game mode from the Summer Games, will be back. Last year, Lucioball took place in a Rio stadium in Brazil, but this year it will take place in a stadium placed in Sydney, Australia.

They also made several changes to this game mode based on the feedback they got from many Lucioball fans. This year, Lucio won’t come with the ability to boop others, which means that you can no longer boop enemy goalies away from their goal then use your ult to pull the ball inside.

Also, there was a major tweak to Lucio’s ult- using his old ult could pull the ball towards you like a magnet, but his new ult now boosts his move speed and jumps, allowing Lucio to use his alternate ability to boop the ball much more quickly.

Lastly, Jeff also mentioned that they will have CAPA Lucioball, competitive play for Lucioball, added for the whole 3 weeks of the Summer Games. You will get a special spray after playing 10 competitive games of Lucioball, and you will also get an additional special spray if you manage to get into the top 500 Lucioball players of your region.

Now that everyone’s all-time favorite gamemode is back, be sure to join in on the fun!
