On August 20, developer Playmoth Games opened the Steam store page for its new title, The World's Shortest Horror Game, announcing a PC release on October 23. The game features an extremely minimal design where pressing a single button leads straight to the ending, without any detours, lengthy adventures, or bloated runtime. The developers described it as a microgame that even first-time players can finish, credits included, within a matter of minutes.

Stepping away from traditional game design where players keep the gameplay experience solely to themselves, this setup is intended as a shared-experience game built for streaming and reactions with other players. Playmoth Games noted that the structure is well-suited for gifting to friends and farming reactions on stream. They added that it was crafted like a small prank—something to play in a few minutes and pass along as a gift. The game is described as a dark comedy delivered with a completely straight face, highlighting its blend of horror and humor.

The revealed video also piqued curiosity by showing a start button pressed, followed by a brief scream, and jumping straight to the credits with everything in between cut out. Meanwhile, after finishing the game, players can leave their name for other players to see, showing a clear focus on community elements. The content warnings note the presence of sudden loud noises, rapid glitching visuals, and brief flashing effects, leaving viewers wondering what the actual gameplay scope and experience will feel like.

Attempts at micro-short horror games have been made across various indie platforms before. However, while most stayed limited to free releases or small community distribution, The World's Shortest Horror Game is being registered and released officially on Steam.
