On August 20, Kakao Games (co-CEOs Kim Tae-hwan and Lee Si-woo) held a media showcase for "Dokkaebi World," a new 2.5D MMORPG currently under development by Supercat (CEO Kim Won-bae), revealing the game's key features and service roadmap.
"Dokkaebi World" is an MMORPG in development based on the popular Naver web novel and webtoon "Myeolgwi Sudojeon." Applying a hybrid visual style that combines 2D pixel characters with 3D backgrounds, the game delivers both retro nostalgia and three-dimensional spatial depth, completing a unique universe with pixel art imbued with traditional Korean sentiment. Furthermore, collaboration with REDICE STUDIO—the webtoon studio behind "Solo Leveling"—has elevated its quality as a K-fantasy IP.
The showcase began with opening remarks from Kakao Games CEO Lee Si-woo, followed by Supercat Producer Park Sung-jun, Director Jang Su-min, and Kakao Games Head of Business Division Cha Myeong-su taking the stage dressed in hanbok to match the game's theme. They presented "Dokkaebi World" and answered questions from the audience. The development team sequentially detailed the Korean-inspired world concept, 2.5D graphics, core gameplay content, key systems, future development plans, and service roadmap.
Revealed game features included key content such as: ▲ "Infinite Skill Deck Building," allowing players to freely combine 12 skill styles regardless of class; ▲ an opt-in PvP system where players choose whether to participate; ▲ "Clan PvE Avatar Dispatch," which continues activities while offline; ▲ the AI assistant "Myorong," providing various insights based on user activity data; and ▲ "Dimensional Conquest," a large-scale battle mode supporting up to 9,000 players.
Alongside the media showcase, Kakao Games officially opened pre-registration for "Dokkaebi World" today. Players can participate through the Kakao Games pre-registration page, Google Play, Apple App Store, and other major app stores. Participants via Kakao Games pre-registration can choose and receive one of four in-game "gat" (traditional hat) costumes, while friend invitation events offer various prizes including a "24K Pure Gold Goblin Club (3 don / ~11.25g)."
In addition, Kakao Games is offering limited-edition "Dokkaebi World" collaboration merch packages signed by Park Ji-hoon and "Park Ji-hoon photocards" through the pre-registration event.
Coinciding with the start of pre-registration, the main commercial starring actor Park Ji-hoon themed around "Rebellion" was premiered on site. The "Park Ji-hoon's Rebellion" ad humorously depicts Park Ji-hoon looking over a world under foreign rule before staging a revolt alongside various pixel art characters. In particular, through a unique staging where medieval fantasy MMORPG characters and cute, Korean-styled pixel art characters clash and launch a rebellion on the same screen, it showcases the distinct world of "Dokkaebi World."
To capture the authentic Korean sentiment of the new title "Dokkaebi World," Kakao Games collaborated with hanbok brand OUWR through the Korea Craft & Design Foundation's "2026 Corporate-Linked Traditional Cultural Product Development" project, producing collaborative hanbok and various themed merchandise.
Kakao Games plans to host an online showcase for players in September to reveal additional core content and detailed service plans for "Dokkaebi World," while accelerating final preparations ahead of a targeted official launch in October.
