Ahead of the official launch of Special Force Remastered, South Korea's iconic FPS, Dragonfly is kicking off pre-registration along with a variety of events.
Dragonfly is accepting pre-registrations for the official service of its PC FPS game Special Force Remastered from August 20 to September 16, 2026, on its official website. All players who pre-register will receive a 'Welcome Package Item' usable after the official launch. Additionally, Dragonfly has organized a '100,000 Agents Rally Event' offering milestone rewards based on cumulative sign-ups, as well as a teaser video titled 'Footprints of SF' featuring the veteran casting duo Jung So-rim and On Sang-min introducing the game's history.
First launched in 2004, Special Force was South Korea's first modern military FPS and claimed the #1 spot in PC bang market share immediately after release. It went on to top the PC bang game rankings for 79 consecutive weeks, reaching 6 million registered users domestically and 100 million cumulative players worldwide to establish itself as a national phenomenon. Starting in 2005, it spearheaded esports culture through its pro league, setting memorable milestones such as drawing over 20,000 spectators to the Proleague Finals at Gwangalli Beach in Busan and hosting a LAN party at Mount Kumgang in North Korea.
Directly overseen by Executive Producer Chul-seung Park, Dragonfly's founder and original developer, this remaster project faithful preserves key core elements—including the original's distinct movement feel, heavy hit feedback, weapon-specific recoil patterns, and fast combat tempo. The team focused on elevating graphic quality using Unreal Engine while preserving the original game's signature play feel.
The system was overhauled to exclude excessive pay-to-win elements and avoid reliance on unclear implicit rules. To lower the barrier to entry for beginners, new features such as a 'Firing Range,' a 'Tutorial,' and various quality-of-life improvements were added. Following the launch of Early Access on Steam and Epic Games in March, Dragonfly spent six months gathering player feedback to bolster content, refine systems, and optimize performance.
A company representative stated, "During the six-month Early Access period, we focused on strengthening content and polishing the official release build." They added, "Even after the official service begins, we plan to maintain a live service that actively incorporates user feedback."
