Riot Games and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) have partnered to promote the expansion and development of cultural content through collaboration between gaming and classical music.
Riot Games (CEO Jo Hyuk-jin) and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (CEO Jeong Jae-wal) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Wednesday, the 29th, at the Riot Games Auditorium located in Parnas Tower, Gangnam District, Seoul.
The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from both organizations, including Riot Games Korea CEO Jo Hyuk-jin and SPO CEO Jeong Jae-wal, who signed the agreement.
This partnership aims to foster the growth and development of cultural content through cross-genre collaboration. Riot Games and the SPO have agreed to work together to promote the excellence of gaming, esports, and K-Classic (classical music), and to provide differentiated content that transcends genre boundaries.
Riot Games has a successful track record of hosting performances that blend League of Legends (LoL) with classical music. The company successfully held the 'League of Legends Live: The Orchestra' concert at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in 2021 and hosted another performance during the Mid-Season Invitational in Busan in 2022.
Through this collaboration with the SPO, Riot Games plans to translate the expansive world of LoL and the rich narratives of LoL Esports—which has grown into a globally popular brand—into classical performances, offering unique experiences to fans across diverse generations, from their teens to their 40s.
The SPO expects that by connecting with the powerful IP of LoL and the world-class global esports brand of the LCK, it will be able to broaden the public appeal of classical music, attract new audiences, and improve accessibility to the genre.
Riot Games and the SPO plan to discuss the details of their collaboration and finalize a roadmap within this year, with full-scale joint projects set to begin next year.
"Through our cooperation with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, we will strive to provide gaming and esports fans with new and diverse forms of enjoyment that transcend the boundaries between cultural content," said Jo Hyuk-jin, CEO of Riot Games Korea.
"Through this MOU with Riot Games, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra will build an organic and close cooperative system," said Jeong Jae-wal, CEO of the SPO. "We will strive to present new genre possibilities for classical music to the public and offer differentiated cultural and artistic experiences in their daily lives."
