Subnautica 2, developed by Krafton (CEO Kim Chang-han)'s creative studio Unknown Worlds, has maintained its position as the top-selling game on Steam globally, reaching 2 million cumulative units sold within just 12 hours of its early access launch.

Subnautica 2 recorded a peak of 651k concurrent players across Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Xbox platforms combined. On Steam alone, the peak concurrent player count reached 467k—a figure approximately nine times higher than the all-time peak (about 51k) of the original Subnautica, which was officially released in 2018.

Initial player reception has also been positive. The game holds a 'Very Positive' rating on Steam, living up to the anticipation that drove 5 million wishlists. User reviews have highlighted the Unreal Engine 5-based underwater visuals, the series' first-ever 4-player co-op multiplayer, the survival and crafting systems, and the storytelling as key strengths.

The game also maintained high levels of engagement in viewership metrics. It topped all categories on Twitch with a peak of 413k concurrent viewers. It also reached #1 in the gaming category on YouTube Live and Naver Chzzk, surpassing 109k and 14k peak concurrent viewers, respectively.

Developed by Unknown Worlds, founded by Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire, Subnautica 2 is the official sequel to the Subnautica series, which pioneered the marine survival genre. Set on an alien planet distinct from its predecessor, the game utilizes Unreal Engine 5 to bring its unknown ecosystem to life with vivid detail. It also introduces the series' first-ever four-player co-op mode, offering an expanded sense of immersion as players devise survival strategies and share the rewards of exploration with friends.
