Nexon announced on the 14th that 'ARC Raiders,' developed by its subsidiary Embark Studios, will shift its update cycle from a monthly cadence to a twice-yearly major patch model.

This strategic decision by the development team aims to build a foundation for long-term success by adding content depth rather than relying on repetitive, small-scale patches, especially as competition in the extraction shooter genre intensifies in the global market. The move is seen as a structural improvement designed to reduce update fatigue and fundamentally expand the game's economic structure and narrative.
"The pressure of a monthly cycle limited the impact our updates could have," explained Alexander Grøndal, Executive Producer at Embark Studios. "Moving forward, we aim to increase the scale and impact of our updates to create meaningful changes in how players experience the game."
The live service team will remain in place to handle routine balance adjustments, bug fixes, shop updates, and user events. With the additional development bandwidth, Embark Studios plans to focus on ensuring a healthy game environment, including economic balancing and anti-cheat measures.
The next major update, 'Frozen Mountain Pass,' is scheduled for October. It will be the largest content expansion since the official launch of 'ARC Raiders.'
The update will open a new, multi-layered frontier. Players will be able to explore new regions of the Rust Belt on the game's largest map to date. New designs and behavior patterns for the ARC machine enemies will also be introduced, adding new variables to combat.
A new progression system for max-level players will also be introduced, providing new goals for Raiders who have already fully expanded their hideouts and reached the skill point cap. Additionally, the update will feature story elements exploring the origins of the ARC, a revamped skill tree, and new weapons and gear.
Next week, a new nomadic merchant will be added in response to feedback from endgame players. Unlocked at level 25, this merchant will allow players to trade high-value items for unique rewards or rare cosmetic items.
The 'ARC Raiders' community has previously pointed to limited inventory space and a lack of utility for high-value items as major issues. The fear of losing items upon death during expeditions had also led to lower participation rates.
Through the new merchant, players will be able to secure additional storage capacity. In particular, the newly introduced 'Expedition Vault' will allow players to safely secure up to five items during an expedition, mitigating the risk of losing gear.
"The goal has always been more than just survival; it's about one day reclaiming the surface," added Grøndal. "We are committed to providing a long-term experience where progression, narrative, and world-building evolve together."
