The Castlevania series, one of KONAMI's flagship franchises that has been absent from the gaming scene for years, is finally making a comeback to mark its 40th anniversary.

During the State of Play event on the 13th, KONAMI unveiled the new title, 'Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.' Revealed as a signature 2D exploration action game, this title is being co-developed by KONAMI, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin.

The game follows the story of a successor to Trevor Belmont, who wields the sacred Vampire Killer whip to hunt down monsters that suddenly appeared in Paris in 1499. As the Vampire Killer returns as a core weapon and the game implements the series' signature side-scrolling action, the whip serves as both a tool for subduing demons and a means of traversal.

In addition to the whip, the new protagonist also uses a sword, with more weapons and abilities expected to be revealed in future updates.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary, this entry will maintain the series' classic gothic art style while introducing a fresh atmosphere and world not seen in previous Castlevania games.

While the Castlevania series has seen mobile releases in 2019 and DS collection titles in 2024, no new console-oriented game has been announced since 2014's 'Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.' Consequently, all eyes are on whether 'Castlevania: Belmont's Curse' can satisfy the thirst of fans who have waited over a decade for a new installment.

The game is scheduled for release in 2026.
