Legendary Korean Game Developer's New Title Project Imjin Reveals Combat Footage

Red Ginkgo Games has released combat footage for its in-development title “Project Imjin” on the 2nd. “Project Imjin” is the latest work from PD Kim Tae-gon, known for earlier Korea-history titles such as Imjinrok (Seven Years War) and The Great Merchant (Gersang). The developer, Red Ginkgo Games, has registered the trademark “Imjin War.”

The newly published video showcases the game’s core: an encounter-based combat system. Players assemble six units to take on large enemy forces, placing an emphasis on strategic play.

The footage features staple troop types—cavalry, shield bearers, and archers—alongside special war engines such as the hwacha. According to the development team, a standard detachment is formed by combining five officers with one war engine.

Battle maps span a variety of theaters, including everyday villages, siege assaults on castle walls, the deck of a panokseon warship, and military camps.

A Red Ginkgo Games representative commented, “Through this land-combat video—where five officers are paired with one war engine—we’re introducing the foundations of the game for the first time,” adding, “We’re working to depict key engagements from the Battle of Noktundo, seven years before the Imjin War, to the hand-to-hand boarding action at the Battle of Noryang.”

They continued, “By allowing players to mix and match officers and war engines, we’ve structured the game for strategic play, and we’ve heightened immersion by letting players directly nurture historical figures.”
