T1 Keria on the Asian Games: "I’m not confident that I’ll be chosen, but I’m definitely zealous for the spot"

On day 19 of the 2022 LCK Spring split, T1 defeated Gen.G 2-0 and remained undefeated for the split. While T1 had a tough game against a Gen.G roster that had three emergency substitutes, their game 2 performance was nearly flawless, seemingly ironing out macro mistakes they made in game 1. With their victory on day 19, T1’s now at an 8-match undefeated streak, standing undisputed at the top of the LCK standings.

The following is a post-match interview with T1’s support, Ryu “Keria” Min-seok.

Thoughts on the victory?

Although I’m happy about the victory, I’m more irritated at the moment. Tonight’s match against Gen.G was something I was really looking forward to, so it really sucks that I didn’t get to play against their full starting five because of COVID.

Did you expect Chovy to go top because of Doran’s absence?

That’s right. We anticipated and drafted well accordingly.

Game 1 went over 40 minutes. It seemed like T1 had a good lead early, so why was the game so prolonged?

After we got a big lead early, I got complacent. Our in-game calls got overlapped in our macro, which led to us giving up that lead over multiple scenarios.

In comparison, game 2 was a clean win. Tell us how that game went.

I think our draft went really well in game 2, and apart from getting caught during the mid-game, I think our performance wasn’t half bad.

‘Lospa’ previously stated in an interview that even if he loses to you, there’ll be a lot to learn from it. Now that you actually played against him tonight, is there anything you’d like to say to him?

I played Yuumi in both games, so I don’t think there was much to learn from tonight. He would’ve really grown if he played against the real me, so that sucks a bit [laughter]. I think Lospa was really nervous, so he made a lot of minute mistakes. If he sheds his nerves and is more confident in the plays he makes, I think he can play much better.

Zeri continues to rise to the top of the competitive meta. When and how should she be utilized to be considered a great champion?

Right now, she’s just insanely broken. She’s way too strong. You only have to press Q to win, and she just carries games both in scrims and in stage matches.

Although T1’s on an eight-match win streak, T1 did have their moments of weaknesses. How do you rate the team’s current strength?

Up until our match against Hanwha Life Esports, I didn’t think that we made any major mistakes. However, we made a lot of those in game 1 tonight. I want to think of game 1 as a hiccup. As long as we continue to practice the way we do and continue to make improvements, we’ll be okay.

Team Korea for the 2022 Asian Games will be decided soon. How zealous are you to be chosen as the support for Team Korea?

I’m not confident that I’ll be chosen, but I’m definitely zealous for the spot. Even if I don’t get chosen this year, as long as I continue to play well, I think there’ll come an opportunity in the future. I just gotta make sure to continue working hard.
