MAD Lions has defeated Fnatic 3-1 in the finals of the 2021 League of Legends European Championship Summer Playoffs for its second consecutive domestic championship. MAD's spring title allowed the squad to represent Europe at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational, and now, it will go to Worlds 2021 as the LEC's #1 seed.

MAD and FNC's road to the finals of the LEC Summer Playoffs could not have been more different.

MAD shook off a summer slump following post-MSI burnout and started its post-season by sending G2 Esports to the lower bracket in a 3-1 win to qualify for Worlds.

Rogue, who did the same and the opposite side of the upper bracket by defeating Misfits 3-2, faced off against MAD next, but also found itself in the lower bracket in a 3-1 loss just like G2 the round prior.

MAD Lions went to the finals undefeated, losing only two games in the process. Fnatic, on the other hand, had to fight through the entire lower bracket, winning three series in a row 3-2 against Team Vitality, Misfits, and G2 Esports to qualify for the World Championship alongside MAD and RGE. Fnatic rode its momentum into a 3-0 lower bracket finals sweep of Rogue to qualify for the finals of the Summer Playoffs after miraculously running all the way through the lower bracket.

Fnatic's unrelenting aggression ended up making the difference against the teams it beat before MAD, but MAD thrives in the same chaotic gamepace that Fnatic does, only with superior teamfighting. Fnatic only managed to take a game as MAD Lions won its second domestic title of the year.
