Leak shows zombies coming to Warzone's battle royale mode

A new leak appears to confirm that we will see zombies in Warzone's standard battle royale modes. While we already knew zombies were coming to dedicated Cold War zombies modes with Season 2, the new leaks are the first confirmation we have received that zombies could also be running free around the Warzone map in the standard modes.

The new information was first covered by Dexerto and is based on screenshots that show several zombie-specific challenges for Warzone game types that include a circle, such as "eliminate 8 zombies before the first circle closes." The wording of these challenges appears to confirm that we can expect to fight zombies in addition to other players in Warzone.

It is unclear how the zombies and map changes in Warzone will be implemented from a narrative perspective. Warzone players can currently see a large cargo ship running toward the Prison. The ship appears to have a small electrical storm around it and it has widely been speculated that this cargo tanker will have something to do with a zombie outbreak on the Verdansk Warzone map.

Activision-Blizzard recently announced that a stand-alone zombies mode is coming to Warzone in Season 2 called Outbreak. That mode is a large-scale zombie mode that continues the Dark Aether storyline from past Treyarch zombies modes. They also announced a PlayStation-specific zombies mode called onslaught, which will pit duos against hordes of zombies on Cold War multi-player maps.

Players will be able to experience the new zombies modes when Season 2 launches on Thursday morning.
