Xenoblade Chronicles' Mythra and Pyra announced as Smash Ultimate DLC fighter

The new Smash DLC was announced in the Nintendo Direct earlier today and it looks like we're getting another swordie.

This time it's two characters from Xenoblade 2, Pyra and Mythra. The two powerful fighters can switch back and forth at will just like in Xenoblade, meaning players will be able to swap between both characters depending on the match or situation at hand.

Mythra is the Aegis, a legendary Blade with light-element attacks. One of her abilities is Foresight, which allows her to seek into the immediate future. In Smash, it looks like this attack will be a counter, allowing her to appear behind an opponent after predicting their incoming move.

Pyra has fire-elemental power instead. In Xenoblade, Pyra is not able to recover from injuries like the other Blades. It's possible this will make Pyra a glass cannon-style fighter who can deal a lot of damage but risks being KOd a bit easier than most.

In the Smash DLC trailer, Mythra and Pyra come across Shulk, another Xenoblade character who is already in Smash. He warns the two Blades that he isn't going to go easy on them in Smash. But little does he know, Myra and Pyra already defeated many other big names in the Smash universe earlier in the trailer.

"We're fighters, too!" Mythra and Pyra shout back, jumping in to fight him without hesitation.

Mythra and Pyra will be bringing the power of Aegis to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in March. Before then, Nintendo will most likely release a video outlining the fighter's full moveset. This is something they've done for other fighters in the Fighter Passes.

"Together, nothing can stand in our way!"

All I can say is, I know who I'm cosplaying when conventions return.
