Harrisburg University has been hosting the Harrisburg University Esports Invitational since 2018, and in 2020, the event will return for the third consecutive year with a small adjustment. Unlike previous years' full-on, festival-style event approach, the entirety of the event this year will be held virtually due to health concerns caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic. The statement from HU Esports regarding the event reads as follows:

"The largest collegiate esports tournament in the country is back—with a twist. The 2020 Harrisburg University Esports Invitational will be fully virtual in an effort to ensure the health and safety of the 500+ student athletes who will participate. HUE will provide a welcome opportunity for students to show their skills and connect with the collegiate esports community across the United States. This year’s League of Legends and Overwatch teams will compete for a piece of the $20,000 prize pool.

This two-day tournament will match more than 60 collegiate esports teams (entry is currently open) in pool play elimination rounds on Saturday, September 19. Quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be held on Sunday, September 20. Games will be livestreamed with commentary from some of the industry’s most influential casters."

With a total of 60 teams competing and registration still open, there is a good change the 2020 HUE Invitational will double the 32 team entry total of last year's event, which was the largest collegiate esports event in Pennsylvania last year.

The HUE Invitational will feature competitions for collegiate teams in both League of Legends and Overwatch. HU Esports' team, the Harrisburg University Storm, possesses a League of Legends squad featuring retired League of Legends Championship Series professional player Alex "Xpecial" Chu as Head Coach. HU Storm's Overwatch team, led by head Coach Joe Gramano, won its second consecutive OW Collegiate Championship earlier this week.
