Gen.G Esports secured a 2-0 victory against Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) in their Round 1 match of the 2026 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) regular season, held at LoL PARK in Jongno on the 16th. Jung Ji-hun, known as 'Chovy,' played a pivotal role in turning around a disadvantageous Game 1 with Azir, and in Game 2, he picked Anivia to literally present his opponents with a 'wall of sighs.'
In the Player of the Match (POM) interview following the game, Chovy celebrated the win, saying, "We won 2-0, and personally, I'm satisfied because I was happy with my own performance."
In Game 1, Chovy countered Akali by picking Azir with Grasp of the Undying, prioritizing health-boosting items like Liandry's Torment, Hextech Rocketbelt, and Riftmaker. When asked why, he replied, "If you go for Nashor's Tooth or Lethal Tempo against Akali, you suffer significant damage loss when she enters her shroud. Akali is also very strong these days. However, because of her energy costs, if she can't secure a 'one-shot' kill, she ends up dying herself. That's why I prepared it that way."
However, Game 1 started on a difficult note after a loss in an early scuttle crab skirmish. Regarding this, Chovy explained, "The scuttle crab fight was actually unrelated to me. But while I was moving to assist, I ran into Akali and we ended up clashing. That cost me the lead I had built in the laning phase and even led to a 'love kill' (mutual kill). That was a bit regrettable. Still, there was nothing I could do about what had already happened, and I felt that as time went on, the game would naturally favor me anyway, so I was fine."
In Game 2, the team allowed their opponents to take both Pantheon and Ryze, champions with global ultimates. Chovy expressed confidence, stating, "Pantheon and Ryze are good for accelerating the game because of their global ultimates. However, for Ryze to roam effectively, he first needs to be comfortable in the laning phase. We judged that if that situation didn't arise, it was fine to let them have those picks."
With this victory, Chovy's Anivia record improved to 6-0. When it was mentioned that his opponent in all those games was Ryze, he humbly attributed it to the matchup: "In the Anivia versus Ryze matchup, assuming both players are highly skilled, I think Anivia wins about nine out of ten times. That's just my personal opinion."
Finally, Chovy shared his resolve: "We are in the process of resolving (our inconsistent performance). The biggest issue we've identified is that our team synergy feels slightly off in areas that used to come naturally to us. We are paying close attention to that. We will prepare well to ensure we win our next match as well."
