'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' has once again broken its all-time peak concurrent player record on Steam following the release of its remaster.
According to SteamDB on October 5, the peak concurrent player count for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt reached 137,724. After setting a new record on its remaster launch day on September 29 with 120,975 players, the figure rose even higher over its first weekend.
Prior to the remaster, the previous record was 103,329 concurrent players set in January 2020, fueled by the popularity of the Netflix series 'The Witcher,' which premiered in December 2019. The game also approached 90,000 players during its next-gen update in 2022. The launch of the remaster broke those records on day one, pushing the peak figure into the 130,000s.
The Witcher 3 Remastered was released on September 29 for PC, PS5, XSX|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Existing owners can upgrade for free, enjoying wide-ranging improvements across visuals, performance, combat and movement, skill trees, and overall gameplay. Furthermore, base game owners can access the existing expansion packs, 'Hearts of Stone' and 'Blood and Wine,' at no additional cost.
Post-launch improvements are also ongoing. CD Projekt Red (CDPR) will introduce further performance optimizations centered on PS5 in upcoming updates. Alongside these, additional visual tweaks, fixes for console voice audio issues, and expanded regional availability for Ukrainian localization on PS5 and XSX|S are planned, with many of these enhancements coming in the next update. Additionally, CDPR is collaborating with mod.io to bring more mods to all platforms.
Geralt's journey does not end with the remaster. A third expansion pack, 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past,' is scheduled for release in 2027. Set in the new region of Letten, the expansion will deliver another chapter in Geralt's story.
Letten is an idyllic, peaceful land that conceals a dark secret beneath the surface. Here, Geralt will encounter new quests and characters while facing previously unseen enemies. Players will also have access to a new weapon, the chain, with reunions with old friends and impactful player choices and consequences serving as key story elements. Songs of the Past will launch in 2027 on PC, PS5, XSX|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
