NetEase Games' wuxia open-world action RPG 'Where Winds Meet' has reportedly surpassed 100 million cumulative players worldwide.

NetEase Games and its subsidiary developer Everstone Studio announced on August 27 that Where Winds Meet's global player base has exceeded 100 million. However, they did not specify the calculation criteria, time period, or breakdown by platform. They also did not clarify whether the figure represents monthly active users (MAU) or concurrent player counts. The 100 million figure is a cumulative total encompassing the initial Chinese service as well as the global PC, console, and mobile versions.

Where Winds Meet initially launched in China in December 2024. In its Q1 2025 financial report, NetEase Games revealed that registered players had exceeded 30 million as of March of that year. The global version was released on PC and PS5 on November 15, 2025. It reached 2 million players within 24 hours of launch and 9 million in two weeks, before expanding to iOS and Android on December 12 of the same year.

The Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud versions were added on June 8. At the time, NetEase Games announced that cumulative global players had surpassed 80 million. If the latest report is accurate, the game reached its next 20 million player milestone in roughly two and a half months.

Meanwhile, Where Winds Meet will release "Companion Above the Clouds," the final chapter of its "Hidden Mountain" expansion, on September 16.

"Companion Above the Clouds" features a confrontation with the figure responsible for the fire that launched the protagonist's journey. Along with the narrative conclusion to "Hidden Mountain," the update will add special bosses, open-world field bosses, and new gameplay elements.

Where Winds Meet recruited Chinese martial arts choreographer and director Yuen Woo-ping as an action consultant. The new martial art style "Bamboo Leaf Drunk," created through their collaboration, will be revealed on September 3. Inspired by the film Drunken Master, it features erratic movements and powerful striking techniques.

A new spin-off extraction mode, where players tactically secure treasure and escape, is also in development. NetEase Games has not disclosed the detailed structure or release schedule for this mode.

The game will also introduce the special "Ghost Month" event, themed around traditional Chinese folklore and taboo legends. The content adds a dark, supernatural atmosphere to the existing wuxia world.
