Webzen (CEO Kim Tae-young) has unveiled the first details and in-game visuals for PROJECT D1, a new title currently in development by its subsidiary Webzen Crevix (CEO Kim Dong-hyun) using the IP of the popular Naver Webtoon series, Tyrant of the Defense Game.
PROJECT D1 is a new strategy RPG based on the 2022 Naver Webtoon of the same name, which was adapted from a popular web novel about a protagonist who breaks through an impossible game only to find themselves trapped inside its world. The title drew significant attention last December when the partnership with Naver Webtoon was first announced, and it is set to begin full-scale service preparations with more detailed information starting in the second half of 2026.
To perfectly visualize the dot-graphic world into which the protagonist is summoned, the development team has focused its efforts on a 'diorama pixel art' technique that combines 2D pixel art with 3D spatial rendering powered by Unreal Engine 5. In particular, the team has faithfully recreated the original story by transforming its core narrative pillars—'exploration,' 'defense battles,' and 'territory management'—into diverse in-game systems, including party composition, command-based combat, and strategic character growth.
The newly released background illustrations and in-game graphics showcase everything from the main characters gathered together to dynamic combat scenes. Most notably, the inclusion of concept art for 'Crossroad,' the fortress city that serves as the game's primary setting, has heightened anticipation for the launch. Further details and the official release schedule will be unveiled sequentially in line with future development and business milestones.
