KT Kiin: "Lehends knows GEN well... I believe we'll come up with a great idea to face them."

On Feb. 9, in the 2023 LCK Spring Split, KT Rolster defeated Dplus KIA 2-1. After losing the first game, KT Rolster came back strong in games 2 and 3 to turn the game around and win in the end. With the win, KT Rolster collected their 4th win of the season and placed themselves in 5th place. After the match, head coach Kang “Hirai” Dong-hoon and Kim “Kiin” Gi-in joined the media for an interview.

How do you feel about today’s win?

Hirai: I’m happy that we won. Since the opponent was a strong team, one of the favorites, I focused on checking how well we would play in LoL Park. We played well in games 2 and 3, so I’m satisfied.

Kiin: We really had to win today to get higher, and it’s such a relief that we won today. With today’s win, I believe we’ll be able to get higher.

It’s the first time you won two straight matches this season. How is it?

Hirai: I wasn’t aware of that. Whether or not we won two straight matches, I feel good. I hope the players gain more confidence. Since our performance is inconsistent, we need to improve more. We need to have better communication and shotcalls to become better.

Kiin: We kept losing and winning alternately, so we couldn’t judge how good we were. We weren’t sure about our position, but with today’s match, we were able to see where we were more clearly.

KT Rolster clearly lacked consistency up to now. Is time the only solution?

Hirai: Rather than time, I think they have to overcome it well. Sometimes, the players make questionable plays, and they are aware of it. Especially, when they play in LoL Park, they make different plays from scrims. Each player has to overcome the pressure. The best way is to win while doing that. If we continue to win, issues will get resolved naturally. The first round of the spring split isn’t even over yet, and by summer, I’m positive that many more things will be better.

Kiin: When we play in LoL Park, it might be that we get intimidated, but it feels that we make fewer shotcalls. It’s an issue we should overcome.

If you beat Gen.G, you’ll gain strength to rise to the top group. How do you think it’ll go?

Hirai: Gen.G is strong, and they’ve been doing well. As I said before, whatever team we face, we need to do what we must do, and focus on things we need to improve and keep. If that works out well, we’ll be able to beat any team. Like we did today, we’ll prepare well and show a good performance.

Kiin: Gen.G is a team we must beat if we want to rise higher. Since Lehends knows Gen.G well, I believe we’ll come up with a great idea to face them. If we prepare well, we would be able to win.

Any last comments?

Hirai: Thank you to everyone who cheers for us. What I’ve kept telling the players all the time is that they should be positive that we are not wrong. I hope they can play with more conviction, to play with more confidence. We’ll keep working harder.

Kiin: Thanks to all fans that cheer for us. We’ll work hard so that we can show a better performance than today, so please keep cheering for us.
