GEN Ambition: "Our team has an easier time in a 'standardized' meta - one that is static and predictable... It's pretty good for us right now"

On the 1st of August, at the Seoul Sangam e-Stadium, Gen.G Esports defeated bbq Olivers with a score of 2-0. Throughout the series, GEN constantly came out on top of BBQ with their superior macro management. With CuVee on splitpush duty, and the rest of the team looking for picks throughout the map, GEN ended the series with a score of 2-0.

After the series, the two MVP titlists of the match, Ambition and Fly, were invited for an interview with the OGN casters.

Ambition, after game 1, you seemed very happy with the results.

Ambition: It wasn’t different from any other game, but today's was really smooth from start to finish. I think that’s why I reacted the way I did.

Fly, you had great performance on Orianna today. Are you satisfied with how you played?

Fly: Not at all. It would’ve been better if we had beaten SKT T1 in our previous series.

Trundle is rapidly rising in the LCK as a strong pick. What’s your opinion?

Ambition: He’s a solid champion. There were a lot of champions that I could pressure with Pillar of Ice. He’s a champion that could be strong depending on the meta.

During the game, you were constantly keeping check of Gragas’ Body Slam and timed your pillars very accurately.

Ambition: We had the lead, and so, the enemy team was pressured. I feel that the enemy team -- to an extent -- flinched at the sight of Trundle’s glare. (Laughs) During situations where we were running towards the enemy team, I placed pillars when I expected the Gragas to use Body Slam. It just ended up working out.

The Ashe arrow that caused the enemy team to start turtling, the one that landed on Tahm Kench -- was Tahm the initial target of the arrow?

Ambition: It was because Orianna pulled him in. However, we felt that Tahm would Devour and protect Gragas, so it was our initial plan to take down Tahm first anyway.

Fly: I used my ultimate on Tahm so that he can’t Devour.

Many people are curious about the Zoe-Orianna matchup. Who has the advantage in lane?

Fly: I think the matchup is decided by luck. Zoe’s balloon from ‘Spell Thief’ to be more specific.

Continuing from the last question, then which champion is more impactful in teamfights?

Fly: Personally, I like both champions. The side who has more experience on the champion will win.

When making it out alive on Orianna in game 2, what did you focus on to guarantee your survival?

Fly: I solely focused on surviving. I was hit by Zoe’s Sleepy Trouble Bubble, but I held onto Cleanse until I saw her Paddle Star flying towards me -- that quick thinking got me out alive. This is very hard to explain in words, but to those who are high up in solo queue will have an easier time understanding me.

Are there times where professional players just “feel” that they’ll do well before a match begins?

Fly: Yes, by a lot, too. The plays you make heavily depend on how you’re feeling on that day.

The World Championship is just around the corner. At the same time, the meta seems to favor GEN.

Ambition: Many will think the same thing, but our team has an easier time in a standardized meta. By ‘standardized’, it’s when the meta turns static and predictable. Right now, the meta is starting to turn to what it was like last year. It's pretty good for us right now.

GEN is now placed 2nd in the LCK standings. You’re also one step closer to winning the LCK title.

Fly: I want to win every remaining game that we have to play. I’ll put this simply: We’ll do our best.

Please share a word with your fans.

Ambition: It’s very hot nowadays, so please watch over yourselves. Keep the AC running! As for us, we’ll do our part and do our best on stage.
