The Netmarble Cultural Foundation (Chairman Bang Jun-hyuk) announced that the Netmarble Game Museum, which recently celebrated its first anniversary, has become the first game museum in South Korea to be officially registered as a 'Type 1 Professional Museum'.
Since opening in March of last year, the Netmarble Game Museum has established itself as a hub for communicating the cultural value and joy of gaming. This registration as a 'Class 1 Professional Museum' is a formal state recognition of the museum's operational achievements and expertise, marking a significant milestone that proves games are more than just entertainment—they are a valuable cultural asset shared by all generations.
With this registration, the museum plans to further enhance its role as a 'space of empathy,' creating an environment where visitors can enjoy game culture more fully, offering children new forms of play and adults a trip down memory lane.
In line with this, the special exhibition 'Play Joseon: A Move, Beyond the Board,' which was renewed in March, explores the play culture of the Joseon Dynasty and the essence of modern gaming under the theme, 'The board evolves, but the joy of gaming remains.' Through activities like a specially produced stamp tour and a modern board game reinterpretation of 'Seunggyeongdo,' the exhibition offers visitors a new experience to discover the history and fun of games from multiple perspectives.
The museum is also encouraging active participation and engagement through a contest to name the exhibition's mascot, a 'tiger.' Further details about the event can be found on the official Netmarble Game Museum Instagram account.
Additionally, to celebrate Family Month in May, the Netmarble Cultural Foundation is hosting special operations and events for families to enjoy together. For two weeks from Tuesday, April 28, to Sunday, May 10, the museum will offer free admission for children, providing families with a fun opportunity to bond through games. The museum will also remain open on Labor Day and Children's Day to accommodate families who may find it difficult to visit on weekdays.
Do Ki-wook, CEO of the Netmarble Cultural Foundation, stated, "This registration as a Class 1 Professional Museum is a meaningful achievement that officially recognizes the historical value and expertise of our game archives. We will continue to expand our unique exhibition content in line with the museum's founding purpose, contributing to the spread of game culture through meaningful, game-themed exhibitions."
The Netmarble Game Museum is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, except on Mondays. More detailed visitor information and specifics regarding May events can be found on the official website or by calling the museum directly.
