Gen.G Esports secured a clean 2-0 victory against T1 in their 2026 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) regular season Round 1 match, held at LoL PARK in Jongno on the 8th. After a quick regroup following their season-opening loss to kt Rolster, Gen.G has been steadily improving their performance, winning both their match against BNK FEARX and their recent clash with T1 without dropping a single set.
After the win against T1, Head Coach Yoo Sang-wook visited the press room and summarized the match, saying, "I'm very pleased because the players performed perfectly without any mistakes. After losing the opening match, we had many detailed discussions about the meta. Our pick-ban phase went exactly as we had planned, which I believe led to the good result."
'Kiin' Kim Gi-in, who joined the press conference, also shared his thoughts on the victory: "It feels great to have won more cleanly than I expected. Matches against T1 often turn into chaotic brawls, and I thought today might be the same, but we won 2-0. The pick-ban phase also made the game much easier to play."
Recently in the LCK, it has become common for head coaches to cite the pick-ban phase as a reason for their team's wins or losses. When asked about this, Coach Yoo explained, "In my opinion, with the new patches applied this year, there is no way to avoid the laning phase, which has increased the influence of the pick-ban phase. That is why there is more talk about pick-ban and game structure these days."
'Kiin' expressed a similar view. He said, "The laning phase has always been important. However, with the addition of features like 'quests' this year, the side that completes them first gains a massive advantage. I think that is why there is so much more discussion about pick-ban and laning lately."
Finally, Head Coach Yoo Sang-wook and 'Kiin' thanked the fans for their support and concluded the interview by stating, "We will all work hard to return with an even better performance."
