Tier list: The best TFT comps for Patch 11.12 in Set 5 Reckoning

Source: Riot Games

While the massive changes to the Teamfight Tactics armory dominated the Patch 11.12 notes, other big system changes like the addition of new consumables, item changes, and the changes to crit chance all had massive impacts on the TFT meta. Not to mention, there were the assorted impactful unit (Hecarim, Kayle, Jax) and trait (Dawnbringer, Abomination, Cavalier) buffs and nerfs in this patch as well. Given all these changes, this seems as good a time as any to introduce the new TFT comp tier list.

How the Armory changes in Patch 11.12 will affect the TFT meta

These comps are evaluated based mainly on:

  • The strength of their two most important traits
  • The strength of the main carry unit
  • Their prevalence in the TFT meta

In addition, some of the new, less conventional, or rising comps will get a deeper look to inform players about positioning and itemization. Those standard comps that have been prominent for most of the Set 5 Reckoning meta, such as Karma comps, Revenant/Assassins, and Knights/Kayle, will be touched on only briefly.

Revenant/Invoker

Often called the “High-Value” or “Legendary” comp, this combination of Invokers Teemo and Heimerdinger (the second carry in this comp) is built behind a wall of Revenants to soak damage. This comp is entirely late game, as all the important carries and units are 5-costs.

Most players transition into this comp by going Abomination/Spellweavers to start, as it’s a decent opening comp that falls off hard late game. Items can be held by Brand and Kalista until players find their main carry. This can also become the less-powerful Abomb/Revenant comp should Kalista or Brand manage to reach 3-stars, in which case it may be worth considering keeping the items on them.

Verdant/Legionnaire

This comp may seem a bit odd since Kayle would perfectly fit into these two synergies, yet she receives no items. Instead, this is actually a Riven/Draven comp, as the entire goal is to allow Riven to keep hitting stuns while the Verdants give her early crowd control immunity. This is one of the few comps where Ashe is actually useful. At level 9, adding another Knight to keep Taric alive (and pump out more heals to your carries) is likely the best course, but Diana for a second Dragonslayer/Nightbringer can also be considered.

Dawnbringer/Legionnaire

A variant of the popular Verdant/Legionnaire combo, this iteration of the Riven comp is actually a bit more highly-rated because of how strong Dawnbringers have become after the latest patch. While Riven will lose some of her damage with only two Legionnaires, it’s made up for by having a much stronger frontline with Garen, Gragas, and Nidalee. The two Verdants can also be swapped for Ivern and Volibear if Karma is stronger and you’d prefer to have the Invoker active, making this a good flexible comp.

Forgotten/Assassin

In many games, players will not be looking to contest Katarina. Even if they are going for the more conventional Coven/Assassin or Revenant/Assassin, they’ll usually only include Kat to round out Assassins and likely dump her for a Diana or Viego late game. Use this to your advantage, as Katarina can absolutely be a fine carry. It’s even better if you get a random Shadow item or two that you can put onto Ryze or Viego to boost her power even further!

Coven/Nightbringer

While Morgana is often relegated to being the secondary carry, in this comp she’s allowed to shine! Between her Nightbringer shield, Guardian Angel, and the amount of frontline in front of her Morgana is nearly unkillable and will deal a surprising amount of damage with her ult, especially when she is the Coven leader.

This is also one of the few comps where Diana can be fully utilized. She’s one of the most underrated secondary carries in TFT at the moment and few other comps allow her to fully itemize like this one.
