DRX cvMax: "No Matter which teams we were grouped with, they all looked beatable."

The head coach, bot laner, and the mid laner for DRX — Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho, Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, and Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon respectively — shared their thoughts on this year’s Worlds. As DRX currently spends their time in quarantine due to government regulations regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Inven was able to get short comments on what they’ve been up to and how they feel, heading into this year’s Worlds.

DRX cvMax“No matter which teams we were grouped with, they all looked beatable.”

Despite qualifying for Worlds last year with Griffin, you were unable to attend Worlds due to parting ways with the team right before the tournament. How do you feel about attending Worlds for the first time?

I’m excited and nervous at the same time. As this is my first time attending Worlds, I just want to perform well.

Group D consists of TES and Flyquest, and is considered the “Group of Death”. How do you feel about your group?

I don’t think the group is that bad. No matter which teams we were grouped with, they all looked beatable, so we thought everything was going to be okay.

How confident is the team going into Worlds?

We’re still in the beginning stages of our practice, so we can’t say anything for certain just yet. However, we’ll make sure to work hard towards not letting our fans down.

DRX Deft"I know a lot of fans are worried about my performance and health… As long as I improve and overcome all my obstacles, all those worries will go away."

I know that you had issues with your back. How are you balancing treatment and practice?

During my off-time, I’ve been working with a personal trainer to work out, and also received physical therapy for my back, so it’s gotten a lot better. In terms of preparing for Worlds, I believed that I lacked in almost all areas of the game, so I’m working on becoming better on an individual level, and focusing on dying less, no matter what the situation was.

Also, there are a lot of fans worrying not just about my drop in performance, but about my health as well. I believe that as long as I improve and overcome all my obstacles, all those worries will go away. No matter the cost, I’ll make sure to perform well at Worlds.

DRX Chovy“All the players are very good, so I don’t think there’s too much meaning in listing the players that I want to face.”

How’ve you been doing? How do you feel to return to the Worlds’ stage for the second year in a row?

During my off time, I went back home to take care of my personal things. Right now, because I spent a little bit of time not playing the game, my in-game senses have dulled a little, and since I’m in quarantine at the moment, there is that tiny bit of uncertainty about the future.

Is there a particular player or a team that you’d like to face at Worlds?

Not really. To win it all, I have to face everyone, and since all the players are very good, I don’t think there’s too much meaning in listing the players that I want to face.

Lastly, is there anything you want to say to the fans?

I’ll perform well at Worlds and come back proud.
