The Riot Games Korea Invitational, the first large Legends of Runeterra tournament, has crowned its champion: German card game pro Sebastian "Xixo" Bentert. The only non-Korean participant in the tournament defeated his long-time friend and former teammate Kim "Surrender" Jung-soo dominantly in the finals with a 3-0 victory. With his victory Xixo scooped up ₩7,000,000, which is about $5,600 USD, in prize money.
Surrender, who finished second, won ₩4,000,000 ($3,218USD). Players FrozenWinter and Gogongsing, whose journeys in the tournament stranded in the semi finals, each went home with a ₩2,000,000 ($1,609 USD) reward. Other participants in the tournament included South Korean card game veterans such as Jang "DawN" Hyun Jae and Sanghyeon "DDaHyoNi" Baek, but legendary League of Legends player Lee "Wolf" Jae-wan was also among the players.
The competition, sponsored by Inven Korea, was held over the course of multiple weeks, with a group stage feeding into a single-elimination playoff stage. Throughout the tournament, players could swap decks at multiple stages as long as it stuck to the core concept: You have to bring every region. Xixo ended the tournament using a Demacia/Ionia deck, a Noxus/Shadow Isles deck, and a Freljord/Piltover & Zaun deck.
A few days ago, we already interviewed Xixo about his experience playing Legends of Runeterra competitively. You can read the full interview here.
