On Nov. 23, DWG KIA announced that they acquired world champion Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu along with top laner Kim “Canna” Chang-dong for 2023. Kang "GorillA" Beom-hyeon will join the team as a coach. DWG KIA recently parted ways with both their top laners in Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon, Noh “Burdol” Tae-yoon, and bot laner Seo “deokdam” Dae-gil as well as their coaching staff in athletic director Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun, head coach Yang “Daeny” Dae-in, and coach Lee “Zefa” Jae-min.

Deft had won multiple championships over his career, domestically and internationally, but the last trophy he needed to collect was the Summoner’s Cup, which he finally did this year. It was a great “last dance” for DRX Deft. Now he will be moving on to a new team for another challenge.

Canna first had his debut in T1 in 2020. He won his first LCK championship in his debut season.  After a semifinals finish at Worlds 2021, Canna moved on to play for Nongshim RedForce the next year. DWG KIA will be his third team.

GorillA is a legendary support, who played in the LCK for many years. After his retirement, GorillA has been on the analyst desk and the casters' desk for the LCK broadcasts. As he joined DWG KIA, he will make his debut as a coach in the LCK.

DWG KIA’s journey to retrieve the Summoner’s Cup was cut short as they lost to Gen.G in the quarterfinals of Worlds 2022. The roster still remains strong with the mid-jungle duo Heo “ShowMaker” Su and Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu. The contract of support Kim “Kellin” Hyeong-gyu is valid through 2023 as well. With the addition of Deft and Canna, DWG KIA will aim for another world championship.
