Benoit Richer, the main director of 'Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe' (hereinafter 'AC Hexe'), which was officially unveiled during the 2022 Ubisoft Showcase, has left the company.
The news was shared via Richer's personal LinkedIn profile. After nine years at Ubisoft from March 2017 to April 2026, he announced on April 25 that he had joined the new indie developer Servo Games as a game director. He described Servo Games as "an indie studio composed of industry veterans with strong, complementary skills, united by a shared vision for creating experiences."
This is not the first time a director-level figure has left the 'AC Hexe' project. In February, gaming outlet VGC reported that Creative Director Clint Hocking had also departed Ubisoft. He was succeeded by Jean Guesdon, who previously directed 'Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag' and 'Assassin's Creed: Origins,' and has now taken on the role of series content lead.
The string of departures among key directors has cast a shadow over 'AC Hexe.' Coupled with Ubisoft's recent overall performance struggles, some members of the gaming community are expressing concerns about potential development setbacks.
Consequently, the performance of the 'Black Flag Resynced' remake, scheduled for release on July 9, has become increasingly critical. As a remake of a title widely regarded as one of the best in the series—and credited with perfecting the naval navigation system that became a core pillar of the franchise—all eyes are on whether this release can turn the tide for both Ubisoft and the series as a whole.
