LoL Spring Split will introduce a 10-ban system in pro games

Riot Games announced that they will be implementing a 10-ban system in professional games, effective starting in the season of 2017. The goal of this change is to create an "increase in champion diversity and strategic play", "encourage deeper champion pools" and make "a fun and engaging draft phase for fans to watch".

After the change, the first part of the draft phase - 3 bans before the pick, Blue picking first and two picks from Red and Blue - remains the same. However, Red will only get one pick before both teams ban two heroes, and the pick will conclude with Red picking one champ, Blue picking two champs and Red picking the final champ.

If this sounds confusing in text, Riot Games prepared a nice visual that you can see below:

Also, according to Andrei "Meddler" van Roon, the Lead Gameplay Designer of League of Legends, each phase of the draft in pro games will now last 30 seconds, down from the previous 60 seconds.

As for the regular games, however, Riot Games stated that they are still assessing whether the 10 ban system can be implemented as it is on regular matchmaking, as the environment is very different from pro-play, especially due to unfamiliar teammates and unknown opponents.
