KZ Head Coach Hirai on the MSI Group Stage: "The key point for today will be the Jungle matchup."

The Group Stage of the 2018 MSI starts today, and the regional champions have now arrived in Berlin. The LCK champion, KZ is up and ready with some emergency food shipped from Korea.

With just an hour left, we had the chance to talk with KZ’s head coach Kang “Hirai” Dong-hoon about his thoughts on the MSI.

Q. How’s the team atmosphere?

Not bad. We’re trying to be ready and in our best shape.

Q. Were there any obstacles?

The players as well as the team staff members are doing their utmost. We did a lot of research on our picks and bans. The stadium is a totally new place for the players, so we’ll need to adjust to the environment as well.

Q. Today, the team goes against Team Liquid and RNG. Any predictions?

Those two teams are the champions of their league. We do have the possibility of losing because today’s match is a Bo1.

Q. How was the team’s scrim performance?

I’m not going to focus on our scrim performance too much. If we are too good in scrims, sometimes it becomes a minus factor for our team’s improvement. The coaches are cutting down on their sleep and researching the opponents. We’re practicing on what we have to do and what we can do best.

Q. Who would be your key player for today?

The Jungle matchup is important. I hope that our Jungle and Bottom lane performs well.

Q. A lot of people are predicting that KZ will claim the MSI trophy. Any final words?

We’re aiming for the trophy, but we’re not going to count our chickens before they hatch. That’s why a little bit of tension might help the team function. The staff and I are doing our best to help the players. I hope that the fans will support us.
