On October 14 (local time), Microsoft revealed a new compact controller, the 'Xbox Nano Controller', via its official blog Xbox Wire. Long rumored, Microsoft introduced the product as being "designed to fit nearly every pocket and budget."
At around 12.7 cm (a little over 5 inches) in length and weighing 99 g, the Xbox Nano Controller is smaller and lighter than modern smartphones. While it is the smallest controller in Xbox history, it retains all 18 inputs required for gameplay and keeps the familiar Xbox button layout. Additionally, an 'Action Button' has been added, allowing users to assign desired functions such as taking screenshots or recording gameplay.
For connectivity, it supports both Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth, allowing it to be used not only on Xbox consoles but also on PCs, iOS, Android, and select smart TVs. Unlike previous Xbox controllers, it notably features a built-in rechargeable battery without requiring AA batteries or a separate charge pack. Microsoft cited younger players, individuals with smaller hands, and users looking for a portable controller as its primary target audience.
The controller is priced at $49.99 in the US and 8,000 yen in Japan, and pre-orders are currently open. It is set to launch on November 4 simultaneously in around 30 regions, including South Korea, with plans to expand sales regions later. The domestic price for South Korea has not yet been disclosed.
Meanwhile, in the US, Microsoft is running a holiday promotion in collaboration with Meta, bundling the Xbox Nano Controller and a 2-month Game Pass Ultimate subscription (for new members) with purchases of Quest headsets.
