Both the console and the handheld controller are black. For gamers who appreciate a cohesive aesthetic by matching the color of their console and peripherals, a PlayStation 5 (PS5) model that catches the eye is coming to Japan.
It is the Japanese-language-only PS5 Digital Edition Midnight Black model, which Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) will launch on November 19. Black covers wrap around the curves of the console, complemented by blue lighting peeking through to accent its dark exterior. In official product photos showing a matching DualSense controller placed alongside it, the console and controller blend into a refined atmosphere.
It can also be color-coordinated with peripherals already on the market, such as the PlayStation Portal remote player in Midnight Black. In particular, its striking departure from the traditional PS5 color scheme strongly appeals to gamers wanting to own one.
The recommended retail price in Japan is 55,000 yen including tax. Pre-orders will open sequentially starting October 20 at PlayStation retailers and online stores in Japan. It features an 825GB SSD, includes one DualSense wireless controller, and retains standard PS5 features such as 3D audio and backward compatibility with PS4 games.

Gamers who enjoy physical disc games can match colors as well. The standalone Midnight Black Disc Drive launching on the same day is priced at 11,980 yen including tax. Attaching it to the console enables physical game play, and an internet connection is required when pairing it with the PS5. The vertical stand shown in the product photos is also sold separately.
However, this product is a Japanese-language-only model restricted to domestic use within Japan. The system language is locked to Japanese, and it can only be used with PlayStation accounts that have their country or region set to Japan.
