EA producer Jim Vessella revealed plans to restore original live-action video tapes of 'Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger' and include them in a new version. The announced title is '30th Anniversary Edition'.
Vessella stated on the 10th (local time) at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo that original tapes secured while digitizing EA's video archive will be used for this project. Presentation photos shared by attendee Steve Lin list original Full Motion Video (FMV) and upscaled footage as key features.
Plans for the new version include gameplay at up to 60 frames per second, controller support, and community enhancement patches. Steam, GOG, and the EA app were listed as release platforms, while no schedule was disclosed.
Released in 1994, the original game combined space combat with live-action video starring Mark Hamill and others.
