Devsisters announced on the 12th that it is partnering with Big Shot Pictures to produce a feature-length animated CookieRun movie. The two companies aim for a global theatrical release in 2029, marking the 20th anniversary of the CookieRun IP.
According to Devsisters, CookieRun has secured over 300 million cumulative users across 248 countries worldwide. The franchise's total cumulative revenue exceeds 1.5 trillion won. Producing this movie expands the CookieRun universe, which has focused on games, into a film for global audiences to experience.
The two companies will divide roles between production and shaping the core creative direction. Big Shot Pictures will lead overall production, while Devsisters will participate in designing the project's core creative direction through collaboration.
Production partner Big Shot Pictures is a Hollywood studio founded by Brian Robbins. Robbins previously served as co-CEO of Paramount and head of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon. Big Shot Pictures has signed a first-look deal for theatrical distribution with Sony Pictures Entertainment and secured strategic investments from Sony Pictures, Greycroft, MarcyPen Capital Partners, ValueAct Capital, and CAA.
Big Shot Pictures' other projects include acquiring the family franchise Eloise and securing a stake in Alvin and the Chipmunks, which is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2028. The studio is also producing an animated series with American streamer IShowSpeed.
Devsisters also shared the current status of CookieRun's North American business. As of 2025, North America is the largest market in terms of total CookieRun franchise revenue. The company stated that CookieRun: Kingdom was the only standalone game included in the top 10 trending list released by YouTube in the United States. Non-gaming IP ventures, such as trading card games (TCGs) and merchandise, are also growing, centered around the US market.
CookieRun began with the 2009 mobile running game OvenBreak. Following this game—which told the story of cookies escaping a witch's oven—Devsisters laid the foundation for the IP in 2013 with CookieRun for Kakao. Since then, the franchise expanded its genres from running action to RPGs, puzzle adventures, and co-op action through CookieRun: OvenBreak, CookieRun: Kingdom, CookieRun: Witch's Castle, and CookieRun: Tower of Adventures. In 2026, the company launched the PvP-focused real-time battle action game CookieRun: OvenSmash and the idle RPG CookieRun: Crumble.
Devsisters CEO Cho Kil-hyun stated, "CookieRun, which started as a mobile game and has continuously expanded across various fields, will offer a distinct franchise experience on the cinematic screen compared to existing platforms."
Brian Robbins, CEO of Big Shot Pictures, said, "We are thrilled to bring the captivating world of CookieRun to theaters, connecting with existing fans while introducing CookieRun to new audiences worldwide."
Founded in 2007, Devsisters is expanding gaming experiences through new projects such as the CookieRun Universe, open-world titles, and AR. Beyond games, the company is driving franchise expansion across TCGs, merchandise, publishing, media, exhibitions, F&B, and licensing.
