'Star Wars: Galactic Racer', the debut title from new studio Fuse Games—formed by developers from Burnout and Need for Speed—will officially launch on October 6. Ahead of its release, the game has earned Metacritic scores of 88 on PS5, 86 on XSX, and 84 on PC, performing well above expectations.
Reviews generally indicate that the long-awaited new Star Wars racing title—the franchise's first major return to racing since Episode I: Racer introduced podracing—delivers a level of quality worthy of the developers' pedigrees.
The most praised element is the sense of speed. Some critics called it the best since the early Wipeout games, while distinct vehicle handling and a diverse event structure were also highlighted as strong points. Praise was also directed at track design that mixes narrow underground tunnels with open outdoor sections across planets such as Jakku and Crait.
The campaign structure received praise as well. Galactic Racer's campaign adopts a run-based roguelite approach, praised for its strong sense of immersion as new dialogue and story beats unfold with each run. Deep customization, a strategic build system, high-quality presentation, and an atmosphere rich in Star Wars nostalgia were also cited as key strengths.
However, some critics noted that repeatedly visiting a small number of planets can feel repetitive, expressing disappointment that the roguelite structure fails to provide enough incentive for replayability after reaching the ending. Whether future updates address these concerns remains to be seen.
Having proven it meets the high expectations of Star Wars fans with strong review scores, Star Wars: Galactic Racer will release on October 6 for PC, PS5, and XSX.
