Kakao Games will officially launch its new 2.5D MMORPG, World of Dokkaebi, at 11:00 AM on October 8. The game highlights key features including 2D pixel art characters paired with 3D backgrounds, 12 skill styles, and its internally developed AI chatbot, 'Myorong'.

Developed by Supercat, World of Dokkaebi reinterprets Korean traditional folklore, dokkaebi (goblins), specters, and other cultural motifs into an Eastern fantasy world based on the intellectual property (IP) of the web novel The Tale of Cultivation and Demon Extermination. Traditional Korean elements such as roof tiles, stone lanterns, and jangseung (totem poles) are rendered in pixel art graphics, while players take on the role of a 'Dosa' (Taoist adept) empowered by spiritual energy to stand against demons and monsters.
In combat, players combine 12 skill styles instead of choosing a fixed class. The skill styles consist of four categories: 'Frontline Firepower', 'Distance & Flow', 'Variable & Control', and 'Allies & Frontline'. Players can alter their combinations to suit field hunting, boss fights, or guild content. Equipping three skills of the same style triggers 'Sinsik Gaebang' (Divine Mind Awakening), applying ultimate skill enhancements or alterations to skill effects.
Both cooperative and competitive content have been prepared. In the seasonal content 'Tower of Ascension', players can utilize guild member AI as party members, and guild PvE avatars continue activities even while offline. PvE includes 'Barrier Zone Defense' to protect a central barrier, 'Raids' to conquer bosses together, and 'Field Bosses' where rewards scale with the number of participants.
PvP ranges from 1v1 duels to massive battlefields accommodating up to 9,000 players. Combat content featuring distinct modes—such as 'Battlefield of Falling Blossoms', 'Garden of Delusion', 'Divine Artifact Contest', and 'Dimensional Conquest'—will be introduced.
During a live demonstration ahead of release, Kakao Games disclosed its policy not to apply growth-related stats to costumes and mounts. The membership duration was also extended from 28 days to 30 days.
The AI chatbot 'Myorong' analyzes player activity logs and growth data to guide players on deficient progression elements and their next steps. It provides advice on equipment cultivation and character growth while displaying hunting history, currency acquisition and expenditure, as well as guild activity status and participation records. Certain guild-related features will be added sequentially through future updates.
The game's primary currency, 'Geumjeon' (Gold), can be earned by playing Field Bosses, Raids, and guild content, or by selling items on the exchange. Obtained 'Geumjeon' is structured to be spent on magic skills (dosul), growth materials, summon tickets, or exchanged for other currencies.
