Arc System Works Asia Co., Ltd. will release the action game Bubble Bobble 4 Friends Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Stardrop Mountain as a physical and digital title for Nintendo Switch 2 on February 25, 2027. The release adds new stages, 2K resolution, and gameplay features utilizing a camera.
This release comes from the Bubble Bobble series, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in September 2026. It brings Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron is Back!—a major update to 2019's Bubble Bobble 4 Friends—tailored for Nintendo Switch 2.
The game features the series' signature action—trapping enemies in bubbles and popping them with horns and back fins—along with local four-player co-op. The main story consists of 100 stages in total and includes the original arcade version of Bubble Bobble. Players can also enjoy the 100 high-difficulty stages added in Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron is Back!
The new stage "Stardrop Mountain" takes place in a picture-book world and unfolds as a vertically scrolling mountain climb. As play progresses, the screen moves upward, requiring players to reach the summit using bubble action by riding atop bubbles to move. New enemies and gimmicks, including Invaders, stand in the way of Bubblun and his friends.
The display supports 2K resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). Connecting a USB camera to the Nintendo Switch 2 console enables "Camera Play," which displays the player's face inside blown bubbles in real time. The video deforms according to the shape of the bubble, and the camera feed zooms in when trapping a boss in a bubble.
Bubble Bobble is an arcade action game originally planned, developed, and released by TAITO Corporation in 1986. It follows the story of young boys Bubby and Bobby, who are turned into the dragons Bubblun and Bobblun by a wizard's curse, as they venture down 100 underground cave floors to rescue their kidnapped girlfriends.
The new release supports 1 to 4 players and includes language options for Korean, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.
