CD PROJEKT RED has officially released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, a modernized version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which has sold over 65 million copies worldwide. The new version features upgraded visual effects, performance, combat, and character progression systems, alongside expanded platform-specific functionality.
Originally released in 2015, the original game won over 250 Game of the Year (GOTY) awards. Over a decade after its initial debut, this remaster applies improvements across the base game and its two expansion packs, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
The remaster refines textures and vegetation for environments, NPCs, and monsters, while enhancing lighting, rendering, and ray tracing. Path tracing is supported on PC. PS5 Pro utilizes PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to deliver 60 frames per second with ray tracing enabled, while supporting up to 90 frames per second via VRR in Performance Mode.
In character progression, abilities and skills have been rebalanced, and the skill tree has been completely overhauled. Combat now incorporates new animations, finisher attacks, and an adaptive camera. Movement and exploration mechanics for 'Geralt' and 'Roach' have also been remade from scratch, improving actions such as vaulting over obstacles and climbing ladders.
The user interface features a restructured menu layout for quick access to key features, alongside revamped quest and tutorial notifications. On consoles, Mod.io integration has been added, allowing players to create and access various custom cross-platform mod content, including new quests, weapons, equipment, and balance changes.
The native Nintendo Switch 2 version supports motion controls, gyro aiming, and mouse controls. Motion controls can be used to aim the crossbow, throw bombs, cast 'Witcher signs', consume potions, and adjust 'Roach's' speed. The touchscreen can be used for navigating maps and game menus, as well as playing 'Gwent'.
The remaster was developed in collaboration with Yigsoft and supports GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. CD PROJEKT RED unveiled this remaster ahead of its third expansion, Songs of the Past, scheduled for release in 2027.
