Nexon will launch 'Frozen Trail,' the largest update of the year for the PvPvE extraction adventure game ARC Raiders, on October 8. The update adds a new map and three new ARC enemy types, alongside an eight-day 'PvE matchmaking' test from October 13 to October 20.
Ahead of the update, developer Embark Studios revealed key content—including the new region, weapons, and equipment—via a 'First Look' video for ARC Raiders. The update will feature new exploration and combat, alongside progression content and weapon customization.
The new map, 'Pendola Pass,' is a snowy region beyond the northern mountain range of the 'Rust Belt.' Featuring an old Italian village and a transport hub for the 'Exodus Project,' the terrain combines open spaces, narrow passages, and steep verticality.
The map contains the remains of a fallen massive ARC known as the 'Emperor,' while severe cold spells called 'Flash Freeze' occur during exploration. Inside the large vessel 'Frigate,' players can enjoy high-difficulty content by solving puzzles and breaking through enemies to earn high-value loot.
Three new ARCs with distinct characteristics—'Bully,' 'Skulker,' and 'Hydra'—are also being added. Additionally, the 'Outpost' base will expand 'Raider' progression and customization, while the 'Research Station' will support higher-tier weapon modifications.
Alongside these, gameplay items such as two new weapons, a new traversal tool in the 'Grappling Hook,' an in-game photo-taking 'Camera,' and new musical instruments are being introduced. Various improvements, including a 'Skill Tree' rework, are also scheduled.
From October 13 to October 20, Nexon and Embark Studios will temporarily run 'PvE matchmaking' with restricted player-versus-player combat. Players can choose between the existing PvPvE mode and PvE matching, allowing them to focus on engaging ARCs, exploring, and co-op play in PvE. The two companies plan to collect gameplay data and user feedback during the test to evaluate potential official implementation.
