The first stills for 'Exorcism Chronicles: The Portrait is Calling' (hereafter 'Exorcism Chronicles 2'), the official sequel to the 3D animated film 'Exorcism Chronicles' based on author Lee Woo-hyuk's occult urban fantasy novel 'Exorcism Chronicles', were revealed today (24th).
While the first film adapted "The Day the Sky Was Burning" from the original novel's "Domestic Arc," the second film is based on "The Portrait is Calling," which covers the events that follow, as indicated by its subtitle.
Following the Haedong Sect incident, Father Park, Hyeon-am, and Jun-hu begin investigating a series of mysterious deaths among mobsters. Meanwhile, as deaths mirroring her dreams occur one after another around the same time, Seung-hee turns to Father Park for help. The investigation enters a new phase when it is revealed that the deceased were individuals involved in the death of Seung-hee's twin sister, Ju-hee.
However, the mysterious deaths do not stop there. It is discovered that each murder eerily matches scenes depicted in paintings by Seung-hee's father, Hyeon-ung. As the final portrait nears completion, the exorcists must uncover the secrets surrounding the paintings and the dark forces lurking behind them before another victim falls.
In particular, Seung-hee's role is expected to expand significantly in 'Exorcism Chronicles 2'. In the first film, Seung-hee—despite being one of the four core protagonists—appeared only briefly in a near-cameo role since she did not appear in that chapter of the original novel. In contrast, in this sequel, she is set to drive the story from the center as a key character, just as she does in the original work.
Meanwhile, 'Exorcism Chronicles 2' is aiming for a release in 2027, with a detailed schedule to be announced later.
