CD Projekt Red has released a 12-minute gameplay video on YouTube for 'Songs of the Past,' the third expansion for 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' featured at Gamescom 2026.
In the video, Level Design Lead Miles Tost personally introduced Letten, the expansion's core setting. Letten, the stage for the expansion, is an open-world region similar in scale to Toussaint from 'Blood and Wine,' featuring new quests, characters, locations, and monsters.
Letten is a location inspired by the rural countrysides of Poland and England. It features pagan customs, architecture, and pastoral landscapes, and unlike other regions of the Continent, it remains relatively untouched by war. Thanks to its abundant natural environment, it is also referred to as the 'Land of Plenty.'
The daily lives of local residents are also depicted in even finer detail. Songs of the Past builds upon the existing community system of The Witcher 3 to create more complex behavior patterns for townspeople and adds detailed dialogue. The video showcases residents going about their everyday routines.
Geralt travels to Letten because of Dandelion. Letten is Dandelion's hometown, and Geralt visits to help him with his family matters. The manor where Dandelion spent his childhood is also featured. However, a black flag signifying mourning hangs over the mansion, which is tied to the reason he returned home after so long.
Later in the video, the Garden of Thorns is revealed, showing the dark underbelly of Letten. Geralt visits this location alongside Dandelion's cousin Lila to investigate an ancient legend passed down through the Lettenhove family.
The Garden of Thorns is a place that even local residents are reluctant to approach, with an unnatural atmosphere hanging over the forest itself. As the investigation progresses, Geralt becomes separated from Lila and begins tracking down the secrets hidden behind Letten's peaceful facade in earnest.
Combat with a new monster, the 'Swarmion,' was also shown. The Swarmion wraps swarms of wasps around its body to use as armor, and Geralt can neutralize it using a newly added chain. The chain feature also incorporates a system that targets specific weak points.
The Witcher 3's third expansion, Songs of the Past, will launch in 2027 for PC, PS5, XSX|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, a remastered version that upgrades the world of The Witcher 3 even further will be provided for free on September 29.
