Having previously refrained from giving official answers regarding a release date, CD Projekt Red has officially mentioned a target release window of 2028 for 'The Witcher 4' for the first time.

In a video message released ahead of gamescom 2026, CD Projekt Red shared plans for this year's event alongside new updates on 'The Witcher 4'. Michał Nowakowski, Joint CEO of CD Projekt Red, revealed in the video that 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past' will be showcased for the first time during gamescom Opening Night Live on the 25th local time.

Nowakowski stated that a taste of the expansion's dark story and new content will be revealed at Opening Night Live. He added that a large booth will be set up in Hall 8 of Koelnmesse, the venue for gamescom, with a dedicated team stationed for the unveiling of 'Songs of the Past'. He also announced special REDstreams that will air daily during gamescom, teasing that there may be additional surprises during the broadcasts.

Nowakowski shared that CD Projekt Red HQ is hard at work preparing a brand-new Witcher saga. Featuring Ciri as the protagonist, the project currently has more than 500 developers working on it. Describing 'The Witcher 4' as having a vast and immersive open world, intense action, and a deep, impactful story, he introduced it as "our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date".

Nowakowski clarified that 'The Witcher 4' will not be shown at this year's gamescom. While the team is not yet ready to share an exact release date, he mentioned a target release window of 2028 for the first time.

Previously, CD Projekt Red had only confirmed several times that the game would not launch within 2026, without revealing a specific timeline. In this video, 2028 was mentioned as the target release window for the first time, with Nowakowski asking fans to trust the team and let them cook, assuring them that it will be worth the wait.
