IO Interactive's new spy action game, '007 First Light', has surpassed 4 million copies in total global sales.
On August 20, IO Interactive announced via its official X account that global cumulative sales of '007 First Light' have exceeded 4 million copies. This achievement comes approximately three months after the game's official release on May 27.
'007 First Light' is a new James Bond title developed by IO Interactive, best known for the 'Hitman' series. It reinterprets the familiar cinematic 007 universe in a uniquely video game-driven way.
Rather than depicting the seasoned spy James Bond familiar from the films, this title focuses on his younger days. True to its title, 'First Light' zeroes in on James Bond's origin story. Players step into the shoes of a 26-year-old James Bond, starting as an MI6 recruit and growing into a full-fledged agent.
The game combines polished spy action with adventure mechanics. Just as James Bond utilizes a variety of spy gear in the movies, players can deploy various espionage gadgets to complete missions in creative ways. Combined with globe-trotting spy operations and tense thriller elements, it delivers an experience akin to stepping directly into a spy film.
Driven by these strengths, '007 First Light' has earned strong acclaim from critics and players alike, alongside its commercial success. On Metacritic, it holds a score of 87 based on the PS5 version, and an 87 on OpenCritic. On Steam, it maintains a "Very Positive" rating with an 88% user recommendation score.
Meanwhile, in announcing the 4 million sales milestone, IO Interactive expressed gratitude to fans, saying, "Thank you for joining us on this journey and being part of James Bond's return to gaming."
