Smilegate's online FPS, CrossFire, officially kicked off its 'Group Stage' on the 18th as part of the Esports World Cup 2026 (EWC 2026), featuring a total prize pool of $2 million (approximately KRW 2.83 billion). Hosted by the Saudi Esports Federation and organized by the ESL FACEIT Group, EWC 2026 is being held in Paris, France. It is the world's largest esports festival, featuring 24 popular global titles with a total prize pool of $75 million.
The tournament features 16 teams selected from five regions worldwide, divided into two groups for the 'Group Stage.' The top four teams from each group will advance to the 'Quarterfinal Playoffs.' The final winner will be determined through the 'Quarterfinal Playoffs' and the 'Grand Finals' held on the 21st and 22nd. The winning team's region will be granted an additional slot for the 'CFS Grand Finals,' scheduled for the end of this year. Additionally, a separate $10k prize will be awarded to the tournament MVP.
The EWC 2026 CrossFire event features representative teams from major regions, including China, Vietnam, Brazil, EU/MENA, and Southeast Asia. China has the largest presence with five teams, including the defending champions, AG.AL. Brazil follows with three teams, led by Natus Vincere. Vietnam has three teams, including the powerhouse Team Falcons, while the EU/MENA region also secured three spots. Two teams from Southeast Asia, including Team Stallions, will also compete. Key points of interest include whether Team Stallions can maintain their momentum after becoming the first Philippine team to reach the CFS 2025 Grand Finals, as well as the first international showdown between Natus Vincere and Team Falcons, both of which established themselves as dark horses in previous tournaments.
The results of the CrossFire tournament will serve as a decisive variable in the 'EWC Club Championship,' which determines the overall strongest club of the event. The 'Club Championship' aggregates performance across 25 titles, with a KRW 10 billion prize awarded to the winning club. As of August 18, with 21 of the 25 titles completed, Team Falcons, AG.AL, and Natus Vincere are leading the standings, and all three are competing in the CrossFire event. Major matches will be broadcast live in four languages—Chinese, English, Vietnamese, and Portuguese—via the official EWC and CFS channels, as well as on Chzzk.
