Gen.G Esports secured a 2-0 victory against Hanwha Life Esports in the Legend Group match of the 2026 LoL Champions Korea (LCK) regular season, Round 4, held at LoL PARK in Jongno on the 13rd. With this win, Gen.G Esports became the first team to reach 17 wins, vaulting into sole possession of first place amidst a fierce battle for the top spot in the Legend Group.

The following is the full text of our one-on-one interview with Gen.G Esports jungler Kim 'Canyon' Geon-bu.

Q. You've achieved a 3-game winning streak with today's victory. How do you feel?

'Canyon' = We went through a losing streak early in the third round, and I felt our performance wasn't great. I worked hard to improve, so I'm incredibly happy to have achieved this 3-game winning streak.

Q. Hanwha Life tends to build their winning plans around 'Kanavi'. How did you approach the game.

'Canyon' = While Hanwha Life does play that way, we tried not to worry about the opponent's style. I thought it was more important to find our own winning plan and direction. I'm happy that we were able to execute the plays we wanted today.

Q. What was the strategic direction Gen.G prepared for today.

'Canyon' = Rather than deciding to 'focus exclusively on this,' I think our team has great synergy when we play flexibly. I personally prefer making flexible plays based on information gathered in-game. I think that flexibility was well-demonstrated today.

Q. The first set remained tight, with a gold difference of around 2000 until the mid-to-late game. How much of an advantage did you feel you had in-game? And when did you feel certain of victory.

'Canyon' = In-game, I felt that once our damage dealers had two items or more, our teamfight difficulty became much lower due to our composition. There were moments, like the third dragon teamfight, where we could have clearly won, but we didn't capitalize on them cleanly.

Nevertheless, there was no panic. We had Caitlyn, which gave us long range, and our champion composition was flexible enough to respond to the opponent's movements, so I didn't feel anxious even in the tight situation. When we used Ryze's ultimate to pick off the opponent's Jhin and secured Baron, I was certain we wouldn't lose.

Q. Conversely, in the second set, you took an early lead but had a scary moment in the late game where the gold lead was reversed. What do you think went wrong? And what feedback did you share with your teammates to regain your composure?

'Canyon' = There are things I thought we needed to fix after the second set. From the moment we gained an advantage, the opponent focused on our Ambessa in the side lane. If we had responded as a team instead of avoiding it, we probably could have ended the game much faster.

Even after that, our composition allowed us to initiate and win teamfights easily, but we gave the opponent opportunities to initiate first due to positioning mistakes. After losing a few teamfights, we quickly provided feedback, and we regained the flow by focusing on being the ones to initiate.

Q. You seemed a bit shaken during the initial 2-game losing streak, but your performance has improved significantly with this 3-game winning streak. What did you focus on most, personally and as a team, during that losing streak?

'Canyon' = That was right after we returned from the EWC (Esports World Cup). Looking back, I think we were too fixated on the non-ADC meta. Looking at the LCK now, it's closer to a bot-lane meta. If specific champions are banned out, the bot lane becomes very important. I think we had our worst performance because we couldn't find our footing in terms of meta interpretation or in-game play. We focused on fixing that.

Q. Speaking of the meta, Patch 26.16 is coming next week. Changes are expected, such as relative nerfs to non-ADC champions, a nerf to Sundered Sky, and buffs to tank champions.

'Canyon' = Looking at the patch direction of increasing Magic Resistance for ADC champions, I feel it's intended to keep non-ADCs in check. However, I think we'll have to see how it plays out in actual competition to know if non-ADCs will still appear. I actually think there's a possibility that ADC champions might appear in other lanes like mid or top, benefiting from the Magic Resistance buff.

Also, while nerfs to bruiser items like 'Sundered Sky' or buffs to tank champions might look significant on paper, I'm not sure how much they will be felt. I expect things to flow quite similarly to how they are now.

Q. You are the first of the three teams with 16 wins to reach 17 wins and take first place.

'Canyon' = I know there are significant benefits to advancing directly to the playoffs as the 1st or 2nd seed. I have a strong desire to hold onto this first-place spot, and I will prepare thoroughly for the remaining three games to keep it.

Q. Your next match is an away game at T1's home ground. Since you tasted a bitter defeat at Gen.G's home game last time, you must have a strong desire for revenge. How do you plan to prepare?

'Canyon' = T1 plays against Dplus KIA before we face them. We'll likely prepare by referencing that match. While analyzing the opponent's strength is important, I plan to focus more on solidifying our own performance right now.

Q. Lastly, please share a word of determination.

'Canyon' = I felt personally embarrassed and disappointed when we lost to T1 at our home game. I am determined to win this away game.
