The characters from the popular co-op heist game PAYDAY are coming to the big screen.

On the 10th, Starbreeze, the developer and IP owner of PAYDAY, announced that it is partnering with G-Unit Film & Television (G-Unit Film), led by the famous American rapper 50 Cent, and Stockholm-based production company Prime Video's partner, Vice Studios, to produce a live-action film adaptation of PAYDAY.

Vice Studios, which is co-producing the project, has built a solid reputation for producing content in the crime, thriller, and political drama genres. 50 Cent, head of G-Unit Film, also expressed strong confidence in the project in a statement. He said, "G-Unit Film has consistently delivered crime-based stories that resonate with audiences worldwide. Through this collaboration with Starbreeze and Vice Studios, we have the opportunity to bring the world of PAYDAY to the screen and deliver an even more high-energy heist film."

Starbreeze explained that the core goal of this adaptation is to "demonstrate that the PAYDAY IP can grow and expand beyond just a heist game into various forms of entertainment." The PAYDAY film project is currently in the early planning stages, and specific details regarding the director, casting, and release schedule have yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, the original PAYDAY series is Starbreeze's flagship co-op heist game. PAYDAY 2, released in 2013, was a global success, surpassing 40 million units in cumulative sales. However, the latest installment, PAYDAY 3, has struggled, showing shortcomings as a co-op game due to regressive systems and frequent server issues. All eyes are on whether this film project can breathe new vitality into the somewhat stagnant PAYDAY franchise.
