Global game developer and publisher NetEase Games announced on the 10th that its street basketball mobile game, NBA Dunk City, will officially launch in Korea on August 6.
The company also announced that Japanese NBA player Yuki Kawamura, who is widely popular in Korea, will be joining the game. Additionally, Aira, an original character, was unveiled for the first time.
NBA Dunk City is the first street basketball mobile game to hold an official NBA license and is currently accepting pre-registrations in Korea. Through its partnership with the NBA, the game has secured official licenses for all 30 teams and features over 40 real-life NBA superstars. It is the first basketball game to incorporate strategic elements from the MOBA genre and character progression mechanics, offering tactical depth where the outcome of matches depends on player development and the use of unique skills specific to each star athlete.
Alongside the announcement of the official Korean launch date, NetEase Games plans to host various events tailored to the Korean market. Upon the game's release, players will be able to play as Yuki Kawamura, experiencing his real-life abilities, such as his overwhelming speed and exceptional playmaking, directly in the game.
The game also unveiled its original character, Aira. Aira is a genius shooter who boasts overwhelming scoring ability on the court, but she is a character with a twist, being quite shy in her daily life. Popular Japanese voice actress Amane Amemiya provided the voice for the character.
Pre-registration reward events will continue until the official launch, offering rewards such as superstar LaMelo Ball based on the number of pre-registrations reached, as well as limited-edition avatars of popular stars like Stephen Curry for participants.
Detailed information regarding NBA Dunk City pre-registration can be found on the official website and the official Naver Lounge.
