'Sudden Attack: Zero Point,' developed by Nexon Games and serviced by Nexon, will hold its final closed beta test (CBT) from July 9 to 13.
'Sudden Attack: Zero Point' is the latest entry in the Sudden Attack series. However, it differs from a formal sequel like the previously released 'Sudden Attack 2.' Its defining characteristic is that it is closer to a 'graphic remaster' than a full-fledged successor. As such, it retains the original's signature fast-paced action and intuitive, easy-to-learn gameplay, while significantly upgrading overall visuals, including character modeling, to meet modern standards.
The game continues to use the Jupiter engine, just like the original. However, with comprehensive technical improvements to character modeling, effects, and rendering, the experience feels so different that it is effectively a new engine.
Director Kim Tae-hyun explained in a developer note, "If our goal had simply been to provide better graphics, it would have been more efficient to switch to a modern engine. We chose to optimize the Jupiter engine to the fullest because we wanted to preserve the unique gameplay and strengths of 'Sudden Attack.' This allowed us to achieve superior graphic quality while keeping system requirements low."
The released gameplay footage and screenshots confirm the improved graphics and character modeling. Notably, while the original was built for a 4:3 aspect ratio—often resulting in stretched images on widescreen monitors—'Sudden Attack: Zero Point' natively supports various aspect ratios, including 16:9.
Unfortunately, this final Steam CBT is unavailable in Korea due to regional restrictions on the 'Sudden Attack: Zero Point' store page.
While the domestic service model has not yet been announced, Director Kim Tae-hyun has stated plans to apply the 16:9 aspect ratio to 'Sudden Attack: Zero Point' first and then gradually introduce it to the original 'Sudden Attack.' This has led to speculation that the remastered version may eventually be offered to Korean users as a separate service or as a game mode.
