DAEWON MEDIA unveiled a playable demo of its new RPG, 'Forgotten Saga' Remake, for the first time at 'PlayX4 2026,' which kicked off on May 21 at KINTEX in Ilsan. While a trailer for the remake was first released on YouTube on the 7th, this marks the first opportunity for the general public to experience the game firsthand.
The original 'Forgotten Saga' was an RPG released in 1997 by Sonnori, a development team then under Phantagram. As a spin-off sharing the same universe as the 1993 title 'Astonishia Story,' it introduced a 'free scenario' system where events changed based on player choices—a departure from the linear narratives typical of Korean RPGs at the time. It is considered one of the earliest attempts by a Korean RPG to implement a high-freedom structure, though it was also notorious at launch for numerous bugs that made the game difficult to complete.
The remake focuses on preserving the original's pixel art aesthetic. While characters and certain objects retain their classic pixel-art feel, the backgrounds have been rebuilt in 3D. New cutscenes have also been added, altering the presentation of the game's opening. In terms of quality-of-life features, a mini-map and quest guidance system have been introduced, and the combat menu has been redesigned into a ring-style interface optimized for controller input, allowing for selection via analog stick. The game retains the symbol encounter system, where combat begins upon direct contact with enemies. The demo build also features iconic elements from the original, such as the character '?Man.'
Meanwhile, at PlayX4 2026, held at KINTEX Exhibition Center 1 in Ilsan from May 21 to 24, DAEWON MEDIA is also hosting demos for several other new titles, including 'Culdcept Begins' and 'Tumblepop: Memories,' in addition to 'Forgotten Saga.' The booth will also feature on-site sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, as well as discounted software and accessories such as 'Pokémon Pokopia.
